On 17 October 1988, Uganda Airlines Flight 775, en route from London Gatwick Airport to Rome, then to Entebbe International Airport, crashed short of the runway after two missed approaches.
Before Operation Thunderbolt was launched in July, 1976, to free Israeli hostages at Entebbe International Airport, Harari supposedly took the disguise of an Italian businessman to enter and reconnoiter the airport.
In July 1976, Hofi lobbied strongly for a rescue mission to be mounted to save the large number of Israeli passengers on a hijacked Air France airliner flown to Entebbe International Airport in Uganda.
