Schefold was known for his work on late-classical Attic vases, on the art of the Scythians in southern Russia, and his excavations at Larisa and Eretria.
He went to school in Aigio and Patras, went through military service in the 5/42 Evzone Regiment and was then appointed head of the customs office at Eretria (then called Nea Psara).
