Carrowmore Lake is situated in the parishes of Kiltane and Kilcommon Erris, County Mayo between the villages of Bangor Erris and Barnatra at the southern end of Broadhaven Bay.
Yet the area with the strongest place-name associations with the Fir Domnann is in north-west Mayo: the Iorrais Domnann, from which the modern barony of Erris takes its name, and nearby Mag Domnann and Dún Domnann.

The sculptures were put in place in the parishes of Kilmore, Belderg and Kilcommon Erris during 1993, the year of the Mayo 5000, celebrating 5,000 years of human habitation in the area.
