Estrées-Deniécourt

It is one of many villages in the north of France bearing the name Estrées.

France–Africa relations

The European powers continued contending for the island of Gorée, until in 1677, France led by Jean II d'Estrées during the Franco-Dutch War (1672–1678) ended up in possession of the island, which it would keep for the next 300 years.

Jean Le Vacher

Le Vacher was blown from the muzzle in July 1683, and the French consul Piolle André was blown from the muzzle in 1688 when the Marshal Jean d'Estrées attacked Algiers.

Victor-Marie d'Estrées

At the beginning of the War of the Grand Alliance, he volunteered in the army and was wounded in the siege of Philippsburg in 1688.


Gare de Castel

The station was situated at km 8.325 of the Amiens-Montdidier-Creil (via Longueil Ste Marie) line opened in 1853 by Compagnie du Nord and the Amiens-Compiègne line via Estrées-Saint-Denis.

Gare de Montdidier

Coal trains from the mining region travelled to Creil and the large marshalling yards in the North Paris region via Estrées-St-Denis and Longueil-Ste-Marie, joining the line to Amiens at Estrées.

The line was formerly two-track but was reduced to a single track in the 1980s; Montdidier, Moreuil and Estrées-Saint-Denis are the only remaining intermediate points where trains can pass each other.

Gare de Moreuil

Together with Montdidier and Estrées-Saint-Denis, it is one of three points at which trains can pass each other along the line, which was reduced to single-track in the 1980s.
