Its gentle curving slopes have much wildlife with Eurasian Dotterel, Ptarmigan, Grouse and Mountain Hare seen on a regular basis.
The site is also an important breeding ground for many species of birds, in particular the dotterel Charadrius morinellus.
They were also prized as a delicacy: in 1534 Queen Anne Boleyn was presented with " a brace of dotterels".
