His honours while at AC Milan included two promotions from Serie B, three Serie A titles, two European Cups, two Italian Super Cups, two European Super Cups and two Intercontinental Cups, scoring the winner against Atlético Nacional in their 1989 triumph.
In the 1997–98 season, Zola helped Chelsea win three more trophies, the League Cup, the Cup Winners' Cup and the Super Cup.
He held that position for six years, leading the Emilian club to its first promotion in the Italian top flight and then turning the team into a major one in the Italian Serie A, thanks also to the relevant financial backing from chairman and Parmalat founder Calisto Tanzi, and winning a Coppa Italia 1992 and a Cup Winners' Cup in 1993 together with the European Super Cup the same year and a UEFA Cup in 1995.
