On 10 December 1993 they travelled through the Channel Tunnel to Calais-Fréthun and back with a party of invited guests, after the construction consortium TransManche Link (who were responsible for the construction of the Tunnel) had transferred responsibility for operations and management over to Eurotunnel.
The Eurotunnel connecting England and France, which was still under construction at the time the book was written, also serves as a major setting.
In June 2007 the Eurotunnel entered into a collaboration with the Port of Dunkirk relating to rail freight traffic through Europorte 2 subsidiary; the company was to operate trains from Dunkerque to the Delta 3 logistics terminal at Dourges, and collaborate on container shipments to the UK using the port of Dunkerque via channel tunnel.
There are several branches in major cities and close to transport hubs like the Eurotunnel terminal in Coquelles.
Moliere has not been acquired by Eurotunnel for MyFerryLink and had been sold to Scapino Shipping Ltd, then laid up in Tilbury.
Eurotunnel's new ferry company started running on 20 August 2012 branded under the name of MyFerryLink.

MS Nord Pas-de-Calais is a freight ferry owned by Eurotunnel and operated by MyFerryLink.
