2 unusual facts about F.C. Porto


Francesinha

It is often a ritual meal for some that will eat it once a week or whenever they get together with friends before or after attending a football match from a local team (FC Porto, Boavista, Salgueiros, ...) A classic francesinha meal would include the sandwich, surrounded on a bed of chips doused in the famous sauce, and complimented with a fino (literally meaning thin, but, in this context, meaning fine) draught beer.

Martin McGaughey

In 1984–85, he finished second in the European Golden Shoe race, to F.C. Porto's Fernando Gomes, scoring 34 league goals in 26 matches (56 overall), and failing to add more as his season was cut short due to a severe knee injury.


1983–84 Rangers F.C. season

A fruitful brief run in the European Cup Winner's Cup saw Rangers win the second round, first leg 2-1 over F.C. Porto after the team's record breaking 16-0 aggregate win over Maltese champions Valletta.

2004 Intercontinental Cup

The 2004 Intercontinental Cup was a football match that took place on 12 December 2004 between Porto of Portugal, winners of 2003–04 UEFA Champions League, and Once Caldas of Colombia, winners of the 2004 Copa Libertadores.

2010 Madeira floods and mudslides

In support of the flood victims, Real Madrid footballer and noted Madeiran Cristiano Ronaldo pledged to play in a charity match in Madeira, between the Portuguese Liga club Porto and players from Madeiran-based Portuguese Liga clubs C.S. Marítimo and Nacional.

Apito Dourado

On 2 December, the Judiciary Police was supposed to conduct a search at Pinto da Costa's home, but the Chairman of F.C. Porto had allegedly been previously informed by a source in the Judiciary Police, clearing the site beforehand.

Baltemar Brito

Lavezzi scored his third Champions League goal for PSG on 4 December, netting at the near post of FC Porto goalkeeper Helton shortly after the hour mark; the 2–1 defeat of the Portuguese champions ensured PSG top spot in the group.

José Manuel Gomes

In late May 2008 Gomes was hired by F.C. Porto as part of Jesualdo Ferreira's staff, going on to spend several years as his assistant in two other clubs, Málaga CF and Panathinaikos FC.

Kadú

Aldo Geraldo Manuel Monteiro (born 30 November 1994 in Porto Amboim), aka Kadú, is an Angolan footballer who plays for F.C. Porto in Portugal, as a goalkeeper.

During the 2005 Christmas and New Year break in Portugal, a lot was spoken in the press about Moretto's possible transfer to Benfica or F.C. Porto.

Nuno Espírito Santo

F.C. Porto paid 3 million to bring Nuno back from Spain in July 2002, as part of Jorge Andrade's deal.

Paulo Futre

In the 2007 summer, several clubs showed interested in Amorim's services, but he insisted on not leaving, with Belenenses also rejecting bids from S.L. Benfica, Sporting de Braga, F.C. Porto, FC Schalke 04, Tottenham Hotspur and Toulouse FC.
