In the autumn of 2012 Chipciu helped Steaua Bucharest qualify from the UEFA Europa League group stage, after defeating teams like VfB Stuttgart, Molde FK and FC Copenhagen.
Not long after joining the club he helped Southend win the Norhalne Cup in Denmark, attracting interest from FC Copenhagen and Brøndby in the process.
In 2006, Shaffer was loaned on a one-year deal from Racing Club de Avellaneda to IFK Göteborg to replace the departing Oscar Wendt, who moved to FC Copenhagen.
The 2009–10 season the club was invited to participate in the Europa League due to 2nd place in the Danish league Fair Play ranking – behind 2008–09 champions FC Copenhagen, who claimed the Champions League spot.
