Flatwoods

Many rare and usual herbaceous plants are found here, particularly orchids (e.g. Calopogon species, Pogonia ophioglossoides), sedges (e.g. Rhynchospora species) and carnivorous plants (e.g. Sarracenia species).

Mountain Lakes Amphitheater

Constructed in 2005 and early 2006, the 1700 seat amphitheater is an addition to the growing tourist attractions located at exit 67 on Interstate 79 near Flatwoods, West Virginia.


Kentucky Route 693

A section of KY 693 from the Russell/Flatwoods city line to the intersection of KY 207 (Argillite Road) in Flatwoods is also unofficially known as Billy Ray Cyrus Boulevard.

Ochlockonee River State Park

The 392 acre (1.6 kmĀ²) park includes pine flatwoods and oak thickets, and is notable for containing a significant habitat for the endangered Red-cockaded Woodpecker.

Pierpont offers a variety of courses at more than 15 sites in North Central West Virginia, including the Braxton County Center in Flatwoods, West Virginia and the Lewis County Center in Weston, West Virginia.

South Florida pine flatwoods

In addition to saw palmetto, the shrubs Appalachian tea (Ilex glabra), coastal plain staggerbush (Lyonia fruticosa), dwarf live oak (Quercus minima), shiny blueberry (Vaccinium myrsinites), and rosy camphorweed (Pluchea rosea) can be found in the flatwoods.
