Fleet Marine Force, Atlantic (FMFLANT) is an American maritime landing force that is spread across the Atlantic Ocean and reports to the United States Atlantic Command.

He was released from the U.S. Naval Hospital at San Diego in March 1945, and the following month was named Training Officer of Fleet Marine Force, Pacific, at Pearl Harbor, Territory of Hawaii.
Musicians in the "President's Own United States Marine Band" (commonly yet incorrectly referred to simply as The United States Marine Band) wear insignia with the crossed rifles replaced by a lyre to denote their lack of a combat mission; full-service Marines who are attached to the 10 Fleet Marine Force Bands continue to wear their normal rank insignia.
Returning to the Fleet Marine Force in 1977, Capt. Higgins was assigned to the 2nd Marine Division at Camp Lejeune, North Carolina, where he again served as a rifle company commander with A Company, 1st Battalion, 2nd Marines.
After completing The Basic School, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, in February 1941, he attended the Base Weapons Course, Marine Corps School, Quantico, Virginia, and on graduation in June 1941, joined 5th Defense Battalion, Fleet Marine Force, at Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island, South Carolina.
