In May 1952, as part of its promotion of the Burt Lancaster movie Ten Tall Men, the management of the Melbourne cinema The State Theatre on the corner of Flinders Street and Russell Street (now known as the Forum Theatre) measured the height of the ten tallest VFL players.
The arcade is located underground off of Flinders Street and features a selection of indie merchandise, ranging from fashion and jewellery shops and a record stores.
Flinders Street Station became an icon for Melbourne and its famous clocks a meeting point for generations of Melbournians.
It is named after the navigator and cartographer Captain Matthew Flinders.
It is named for the explorer Matthew Flinders, who was (erroneously) credited with discovering Port Phillip at the time of its naming.

Through trains to Flinders Street off-peak were provided from 20 January 1975 at a frequency of every 15 minutes Monday to Friday, with Box Hill trains running express from Camberwell.
In May 1919, Flinders Street to Essendon, along with the Sandringham line, became the first line to be electrified in Melbourne, apart from a test installation on the Flemington Racecourse line.
In the following year he purchased land on the Yarra River, and constructed the well-known Cole's Wharf in Flinders Street West, where Hugh Childers acted as a tally-clerk on his first arrival in the colony.
Electrification took place between Flinders Street and Box Hill in December 1922, and extended to Ringwood the following month, then Croydon in November 1925 and finally to Lilydale in October 1925.
South of Flinders Street, the roadway continues across the Yarra River via Queens Bridge.
In 1995, the City of Melbourne offered the group another underground space, Campbell Arcade, a subway located under Flinders Street and connecting Flinders Street Station to Degraves Street, Melbourne.
These include a major redevelopment on Flinders Street Mall by Jarrod McCracken's construction company and the construction of the North Queensland Cowboys Leagues Club.
