Foreign Assistance Act

On November 3, 1961, President John F. Kennedy signed the Act and issued Executive Order 10973, detailing the reorganization.

This amendment allows the president to provide aid to the peoples of other countries to look after children in cases of HIV/AIDS and to set up schools and other programs for the advancement of child treatment.

Symington Amendment

The Foreign Assistance Act of 1961 was amended by the Symington Amendment (Section 669 of the FAA) in 1976.


Fulbright–Hays Act of 1961

It was marshalled by United States Senator J. William Fulbright (D-AR) and enacted by the 87th United States Congress on September 21, 1961, the same month the Foreign Assistance Act of 1961 and Peace Corps Act of 1961 were enacted.
