Anicia Juliana

The frontispiece features her depiction, the first donor portrait in the history of manuscript illumination, flanked by the personifications of Magnanimity and Prudence, with an allegory of the "Gratitude of the Arts" prostrate in front of her.

Antonino Diana

On the frontispiece of his Resolutiones Morales round a figure of the Cross runs the legend Non ferro sed ligno.

Francis Beale

A portrait of the late king Charles I, engraved by Stent, forms the frontispiece of the volume; the dedication is addressed to Montagu Bertie, 2nd Earl of Lindsey.

François Chauveau

John F. Baddeley

The texts taken more especially from manuscripts in the Moscow Foreign Office Archives; the whole by John F. Baddeley; a monumental work, published in 1919 in two volumes as a limited edition of only 250 copies, with an elaborate frontispiece ("the book epitomised in a series of pictures", said Baddeley) drawn by Amédée Forestier and engraved by Emery Walker.

Peronet Lamy

In 1436 Lamy completed a Nativity scene for the frontispiece of a Gospel book commissioned by Pietro Donato; the rest of the illuminations in this work were done by Johannes de Monterchio.

Thomas Geoffry Lucas

By this date he had come under the influence of Percy Dearmer: the frontispiece to the 1907 edition of the latter's The Parson's Handbook was a pen-and-ink drawing by Lucas which showed an English altar of the type promoted by Sir Ninian Comper and Dearmer.
