Furnas’s work has been exhibited widely internationally at galleries and museums such as the Baltic Centre for Contemporary Art in Gateshead in the UK, Kunsthalle Wien in Austria, Museum of Contemporary Art, Chicago, Galleria d’Arte Moderna in Bologna, The Whitney Museum of American Art in New York, and The Royal Academy in London.
Its 75 rooms house the largest collection of works by 19th- and 20th-century Italian artists including Giacomo Balla, Umberto Boccioni, Giorgio de Chirico, Giovanni Fattori, Amedeo Modigliani, Giorgio Morandi, Giacomo Manzù, Alberto Burri, Antonio Canova, Felice Casorati and Lucio Fontana.
Among his activities, he has worked as consultant for UNESCO, the Istituto Luce, Rome’s National Gallery of Modern Arts, was President of the International Scientific Film Association and of the Italian Scientific Film Association, and research director in the field of audiovisuals for the National Research Council (Consiglio Nazionale delle Ricerche), the National Film School (Centro Sperimentale di Cinematografia) and RAI.
His works can be found Galleria d’arte Moderna of Milan, two portraits at the Ospedale Maggiore, Church of San Antonio of Milan; and in the Galleria d’arte Moderna of Piacenza (Self-Portrait), and in Pinacoteca of Chiari.
