Diébédo Francis Kéré was born in 1965 in the village of Gando.
The village became famous in 2004, when the architect Diébédo Francis Kéré, originating from Gando and living in Germany, received the prestigious Aga Khan Award for Architecture for the construction of the Gando primary school.
He sailed from Kadesh in February 999 CE into the Atlantic, landed in Gando (Gran Canaria) visiting King Guanariga, and continued westward where he saw and named two islands, Capraria and Pluitana.
Maninidra was the mastermind and executor of the destruction of the Spanish fort at Gando.
While Dosso fell under the control of the Amir of Gando (a sub division of Sokoto) between 1849 and 1856, they retained their Zarmakoy and the nominal rule of a much larger Zarma territory, and were converted to Islam.
