The building of the current parish church began in 1819 and its architect was a certain Blasio Zamolo from Gemona, whose signature can be found above the main entrance.
South African sprinter Oscar Pistorius trained for the European season in the town of Gemona, running on a Mondo surface track.
Between 1580 and 1582 he was at Loreto; from 1586 to 1588 at Gemona; in 1589 at Cividale del Friuli; and in 1596 he is recorded as being at Loreto again, this time as maestro di cappella at Santa Casa, a position he held until 1603.
The very year of his establishment, he had to face an attack by Henry III, Count of Gorizia, who destroyed Cassacco, and by Albert II of Austria, who occupied Carnia, Venzone, Udine, Gemona and besieged Cividale.
