They are named after Lady Edeline Strickland, wife of Gerald Strickland, 1st Baron Strickland, for whom the bay is named.
The Chamber building was officially opened on 30 October 1912 by Sir Gerald Strickland (Governor of Western Australia).

In 1923 the Innu Malti was played for the first time in public, and the same year Francesco Buhagiar became Prime Minister, followed in 1924 by Sir Ugo Pasquale Mifsud and in 1927 by Sir Gerald Strickland.
Its foundation was laid April 5, 1930, by the Governor of Malta, John Du Cane, in the presence of the Prime Minister, Gerald Strickland.
