German Revolution of 1918–19

The United States entry into the war on 6 April 1917 threatened further deterioration.

Other noteworthy parties in the Reichstag of 1912 were the Catholic Centre Party (91), the Conservatives (57), the National Liberals (45) and Progressive People's Party (42), the Poles (18) and the Alsatians (9).

A few hours later the Berlin newspapers published that in the Berlin Lustgarten - at probably around the same time — Liebknecht had proclaimed a Socialist Republic, which he affirmed from a balcony of the Berlin Royal Residence to an assembled crowd at around 4 pm.

In November 1918, the Spartacist leader, Karl Liebknecht, declared the German Socialist Republic from a balcony of the Stadtschloss, ending more than 400 years of royal occupation of the building.

National Assembly

In Germany, a Nationalversammlung was elected following the revolutions of 1848–1849 and 1918–1919, to be replaced by a permanent parliament (Reichstag) later.
