The winning writer will also embark on the Etisalat Fellowship at the University of East Anglia mentored by Professor Giles Foden, which will include significant opportunities to meet other writers, publishers and work on their second book.

The 2006 feature film, The Last King of Scotland starring Forest Whitaker, is based on Foden's novel with considerable differences, and Foden himself makes a brief cameo as a journalist at one of Amin's press conferences.

His brother-in-law is the politician, academic and media historian Tristram Hunt.
