Left in command at Tampico by General Montezuma, who went to stir up the revolutionists elsewhere, he maneuvred so successfully with a small force that they captured three times their number of government troops at Ciudad Victoria, with artillery and supplies.

Wherever there was a chance to fight for liberty, Avezzana was at hand, and hardly was he fairly established on American soil when he found himself called upon to defend the state of Tamaulipas against his old enemies the Spaniards, who invaded the territory under General Barradas in June 1827.

Giuseppe Avezzana (born in Chieri, Piedmont, 19 February 1797; died Rome, 25 December 1879) was an Italian soldier who fought in Europe and America.
