The Bristol and District League was originally formed in 1892 on the suggestion of Gloucester City player Percy Stout, although Gloucester did not join the league until the following season.
On 12 August 2013, Gloucester City pulled off a significant transfer coup by signing Edge.
Several of Stout's brothers were high profile sportsmen, and he followed younger brother Frank in joining association football team Gloucester City.
