Great Spangled Fritillary

In 1985 Scottish music band Cocteau Twins released a song called "Great Spangled Fritillary"; it was the first of four tracks (each bearing Lepidoptera-influenced names) on their EP Echoes in a Shallow Bay.

Various species of native violets have reported to serve as a larval host plant for the Great Spangled Fritillary, including the native Round-leaf Violet (Viola rotundifolia), the Arrow-leaf Violet (Viola fimbriatula) and the Common Blue Violet (Viola sororia).

The Great Spangled Fritillary is a butterfly and while there is no Pale Clouded White there is a Pale Clouded Yellow (as well as several groups of butterflies commonly known as Whites), while Mellonella is the specific name of the Wax Moth Galleria mellonella.
