The major artwork of the subway station was created by Siri Derkert and symbolises women’s rights, world peace, and the green movement.
The initial attempt failed however as a group of Alþingi representatives rejected the new party's platform – which was inspired by that of Tony Blair's New Labour – and broke away before the merger to found the Left-Green Movement (Vinstrihreyfingin – grænt framboð), based on more traditional democratic socialist values as well as green politics and euroscepticism.
English Poet and writer, David Caddy and Harry Seccombe founded Tears in the Fence in November 1984, as a literary magazine for the Green Movement.
He has been associated with such long-standing figures of the green movement such as Teddy Goldsmith, John Seymour, and John Papworth.
