The first element is the genitive case of the bird name hegri (Grey Heron) (same as the local river name, Hegra), and the last element is fors which means "waterfall".
Since 1999, the villagers have been a welcome host for Painted Storks and Grey Herons, which annually breed on the trees inside the village and raise their young ones.
Grey Heron is a characteristic species in the area along with Mallard.
There is a good array of birds to be seen around the River banks, including Dippers, Kingfishers and Grey Herons, with increasing numbers of Otter being reported.
Buzzards can be seen hunting over open areas by the river and the Grey Heron is a common sight too.

There are over 70 different kinds of bird, including Kingfisher, Dipper, Sparrowhawk, Kestrel, Song Thrush, Bullfinch, Grey Heron and Blackcap.
Summer passage birds of the Suncheon Bay area include Nycticorax nycticorax, Bubulcus ibis, Egretta garzetta, Egretta alba modesta, Ardea cinerea, Charadrius dubius curonicus, Alcedo atthis bengalensis, Motacilla cinerea robusta, Motacilla alba and Acrocephalus arundinaceus.
It has also attracted indigenous endangered species including Painted Stork, Grey Heron, Darter, Little Cormorant, Little Egret, Intermediate Egret, Cattle Egret, Common Teal, Spotbills, pintail, and flamingos.
