The church was first mentioned in 1381 in the deed of donation of Sulisław I Nawoja of Grodziec.
Because Grodische villa Snessonis was listed among villages located between Skoczów and Czechowice it is undoubtly linked to nowadays Grodziec, whereas the other Grodische, not mentioned in Liber fundationis... is associated with Grodziszcz, in Czech Hradiště, now part of Těrlicko in the Czech Republic.

The first confirmed reference of Grodziec comes from Pope Adrian IV's bull of April 23, 1155.
Wojkowice borders the gmina of Bobrowniki, and the towns of Bedzin (the district of Grodziec), Siemianowice Slaskie (the district of Przelajka), and Piekary Śląskie (the districts of Dąbrowka Wielka and Brzozowice-Kamien).
