Hailu Mekonnen (born 1980), Ethiopian long-distance runner and two-time World Cross Country medallist
He wrote many songs for different Tigrigna and Amharic artists, such as Abraham Gebremedhen, Alex Kahsay, Azalech Abate, Elsabeth Teshome, Habtom Gebremichael, Kahsay Berhe, Mahlet Gebregiorgis, Moges Mebrahtu, Shewandagen Hailu, Sofia Atsebha, Tirhas Tareke, Tadesse Abraha, Tesfay Gebreyohannes, Tikue Woldu, and Tsehaye Yohannes.
In 1926, after having seen the palaces of Europe, Ras Hailu Tekle Haymanot began to remodel the palace his father built at Debre Marqos.
He was sent to Johannelunds Teologiska Högskola in Bromma, Sweden for five years to receive further education; upon his return to Massawa, he married Mehret Hailu.
Hailu would not consent to this marriage: according to Herbert Weld Blundell's translation Hailu considered this alliance bigamous, but Crummy's interpretation of the Ge'ez text is Hailu was more concerned about the incestuous nature of the marriage.
