The young Walter Benjamin's political aesthetics were greatly influenced by a stay (1905-1907) at a Wyneken boarding school (Haubinda in Thüringen) where he became close to Wyneken.
Hermann Lietz (28 April 1868, Dumgenevitz auf Rügen – 12 June 1919, Haubinda) was a German educational progressive and theologian who founded the German Landerziehungsheime für Jungen (country boarding schools).

By 1904 he had founded three Landerziehungsheime, based on Reddie’s model, for boys of different ages, in Ilsenburg, Haubinda, and Bieberstein.
