Hermann Lietz

Hermann Lietz (28 April 1868, Dumgenevitz auf Rügen – 12 June 1919, Haubinda) was a German educational progressive and theologian who founded the German Landerziehungsheime für Jungen (country boarding schools).

By 1904 he had founded three Landerziehungsheime, based on Reddie’s model, for boys of different ages, in Ilsenburg, Haubinda, and Bieberstein.


Gustav Wyneken

Wyneken had himself been influenced by the thinking of Martin Buber and Hermann Lietz, and also the Hebrew educational tradition, in which a good education is founded on a teacher's love for his students.
