4 unusual facts about Havre


Havre-Saint-Pierre, Quebec

In 1857, a group of Acadian families from the Magdalen Islands, who had previously been deported from Savannah (Georgia, USA), settled on Eskimo Point (Pointe aux Esquimaux).

The town is also noted for the excellent fishing, being made up largely of snow crab, scallops, and lobster, with excellent salmon and trout to be found in the numerous rivers and lakes.

Journey to New Switzerland

The book covers the families' journey from Sursee to Havre, thence by sea to New York, and on by river to St. Louis in the form of a diary kept by Joseph Suppiger, Jr.

SS Lapland

In April 1927 she was altered to carry cabin, tourist and 3rd class passengers and on April 29, 1932 started her last voyage between Antwerp, Southampton, Havre, New York.

LGV Normandie
