These were the granting of statehood to Hawaii, the advent of mass tourism to the new state brought about by the introduction of jetliners for commercial passenger flights, and the promotional efforts of Henry J. Kaiser, whose real estate projects in Honolulu included building the hotel complex originally known as Kaiser's Hawaiian Village and later the Hilton Hawaiian Village Hotel.
From 1940s to the 1960s he had written songs for numerous films and television series, including Cinderella (1950), Bronco (1958), 77 Sunset Strip (television series, 1958), Hawaiian Eye (television series, 1959), Bourbon Street Beat (television series, 1959), Surfside 6 (television series, 1960), and the song "This is It" (for the 1960s The Bugs Bunny Show).

In the final telecast of Danger Theatre on August 22, 1993, Tropical Punch was replaced by a segment entitled 357 Marina del Rey, which starred Todd Field as Rake Rowe and Ricky Harris as Clay Gentry in a spoof of shows centered around private detectives living and working in sun-and-fun vacation locales, such as 77 Sunset Strip, Surfside Six, and Hawaiian Eye.
The gathering, which was hosted by Anthony Eisley, a star of ABC's Hawaiian Eye series, sought to flood the United States Congress with letters in support of school prayer, following two decisions in 1962 and 1963 of the United States Supreme Court which struck down the practice as in conflict with the Establishment Clause of the First Amendment to the United States Constitution.
This debut episode of Hawaiian Eye was tied to the successful parent series 77 Sunset Strip by having guest star Efrem Zimbalist Jr reprise his "Stuart Bailey" character, and by having Connie Stevens use the line "as a friend of mine says, its the ginchiest", a reference to the character of Kookie, as played by Edd Byrnes.
