Benny Meyer

Bernhard Meyer (January 21, 1885 – February 6, 1974) born in Hematite, Missouri, was a baseball outfielder for the Brooklyn Dodgers (1913), Baltimore Terrapins (1914–15), Buffalo Blues (1915) and Philadelphia Phillies (1925).

Dunlap Creek

The creek continues northeast, now followed by State Route 159, past the villages of Hematite and Moss Run, then turns more easterly where it is crossed by Interstate 64 east of Callaghan.


Charles James Valentine

He was managing director of the Moss Bay Hematite Iron and Steel Co., Limited, and Director of Cleator and Workington Junction Railway which was built to serve the iron works.

Great Western Iron and Steel Company

He and his business partners (including Member of Parliament Charles James Valentine) owned the Moss Bay Hematite Iron Company, later renamed Moss Bay Hematite Iron and Steel Company Limited, at Mossbay in Workington, Cumberland.

The geology of the Planet area is ancient, estimated to be Precambrian, the bedrock being made up mostly of pinkish gneiss and absorbed limestone and amphibolite, which contained hematite-copper.

Twannberg meteorite

One fragment (II) was found 2000 in an attic in Twann and another (III) in 2005 in the Naturhistorisches Museum Bern, where it had been labeled as hematite.
