He gave the manor to his second son Henry de Beaumont (c.1048-1119), who was created 1st Earl of Warwick in 1088 and who adopted for himself and his descendants the surname "de Newburgh", the Anglicised adjectival form of his Norman lordship.

In a dispute over the estates of Alexander de Mowbray, killed at Annan in 1332, Balliol was unwise enough to quarrel with Beaumont who, in the fashion of Achilles, withdrew from Court in a fit of picque, to Dundarg.
He was given by his father the modest lordship of Le Neubourg, in central Normandy, 12 km NE of his father's caput of Beaumont-le-Roger on the River Risle.
He then married Philippa, daughter and co-heiress of Thomas Basset, Lord of Headington.

He had a brief marriage to Margaret, daughter and co-heiress of Henry D'Oyly, Baron Hocknorton and Lord of the Manor of Lidney; the latter was a great-nephew of Robert D'Oyly, the builder of Oxford Castle.
