Harrison had inherited the manor from his cousin, Hezekiah Haynes, a Major General in the army of Oliver Cromwell, who had himself inherited it from his father who had purchased it from the Mountjoy family.
Haynes was the second son of John Haynes of Copford Hall in Essex and Mary Thornton, daughter of Robert Thornton of Nottingham.
