Laura Codruţa Kövesi (born Laura Codruţa Lascu on May 15, 1973) is the current Prosecutor-General of Romania (Procuror General), the head of the Public Ministry and General Prosecutor's Office attached to the High Court of Cassation and Justice (Parchetul General de pe lângă Înalta Curte de Casaţie şi Justiţie).
At the beginning of February of the same year, however, Cozma was sentenced by the Supreme Court of Justice to 18 years in prison for his involvement in the 1991 mineriad.
This came after a court battle which saw the Alliance's right to exist confirmed by the Supreme Court of Justice.

A trial ensued, and as the ruling of a court in Deva was not to the miners' liking, they appealed to the High Court of Cassation and Justice.
Two of the three judges at the High Court of Cassation and Justice retired during the trial in order to avoid the case and one of those judges being replaced with a controversial judge, Sofica Dumitraşcu, the judge known for releasing convicted terrorist Omar Hayssam.
