In 2001 the Omaha Performing Arts Society, led by the publisher of the Omaha World-Herald, John Gottschalk, proposed building an arts center adjacent to the Specht Building.

Designed by Omaha architectural firm HDR, Inc. in collaboration with Polshek Partnership Architects, the structure specializes in events requiring an environment with good acoustics, including performances by the Omaha Symphony Orchestra and Omaha Area Youth Orchestra, as well as various events within the series, Omaha Performing Arts Presents season.

The Holland Performing Arts Center is a performing arts facility located on 13th and Douglas Streets in downtown Downtown Omaha, Nebraska, Nebraska in the United States; it opened in October 2005.

The Omaha Symphony's board of directors in 2004 declined to renew Yampolsky's contract, saying board members wanted someone more "charismatic" to lead the orchestra in the future as it moved to its $100 million purpose-built symphony hall, the 2,005-seat Holland Performing Arts Center.
