Jim Stewart at Stax refused to give Banks a contract as a singer, but eventually Stax did give him a songwriting contract.

In 1973, they recorded the ballad "I'll Be the Other Woman", written and produced by Homer Banks and Carl Hampton, and with lead vocals by Shelbra Bennett, which became their biggest hit, reaching no. 3 on the R&B chart and no. 36 on the pop chart.
