According to Hugh Whistler's 1924 writing, "Shigri is applied par-excellence to one particular glacier that emerges from the mountains on the left bank of the Chenab. It is said to be several miles long, and the snout reaches right down to the river, lying athwart the customary road from Kullu to Spiti."
Whistler's Warbler originally described as Seicercus burkii whistleri is now considered a full species Seicercus whistleri.

He served in British India, mainly in Karachi but with visits to Basra and Quetta from 23 September 1917 to 14 January 1920, a period when he became a friend of Hugh Whistler who shared an interest in ornithology.
