It was previously used to hold such events in April 1997, March 1998 and June 1998 with boxers including Paul Ingle, Clinton Woods, Howard Eastman and Scott Harrison taking part in bills at the arena.

The arena has hosted concerts by many famous artists, including Arctic Monkeys, Faithless, Keane, Kings of Leon, Lostprophets, Morrissey, Oasis, Stereophonics, Biffy Clyro, Robbie Williams and is due to host Ed Sheeran in November 2012.
