Frolic Froth is a psychedelic band formed in Mexico City by members Victor Basurto (bass) and Arturo López (drums) of Loch Ness, and Jorge Beltrán (guitar) from Humus.
Decomposition of dead plant material causes complex organic compounds to be slowly oxidized (lignin-like humus) or to break down into simpler forms (sugars and amino sugars, aliphatic, and phenolic organic acids), which are further transformed into microbial biomass (microbial humus) or are reorganized, and further oxidized, into humic assemblages (fulvic and humic acids), which bind to clay minerals and metal hydroxides.
It was conceived by Jorge Beltran and Victor Basurto as a special project that would detach from the sound of previous bands they had played and recorded with in the past, namely Loch Ness, Humus, Frolic Froth, and Semefo.
The band was a stint - only lasted for six months - but became the foundation of the now long and productive relation of Jorge Beltran and Victor Basurto, who became founders of several cult bands of the Mexican underground scene of the late 20th century and early 21st, such as Loch Ness, Humus, Frolic Froth and Smoking the Century Away .
