This was the second time Holly Beach was devastated by a hurricane; in 1957 Hurricane Audrey smashed ashore with a 12 foot storm surge.

Six people were trapped in Algonquin Provincial Park for four days due to dangerous river currents and downed trees blocking roads.

The hurricane also dropped heavy rainfall, peaking at 10.63 in (270 mm) near Basile, Louisiana.
