A Soldier and a Maker is a piece of musical theatre by Iain Burnside on the life story of the First World War poet and composer Ivor Gurney.
Performers included the Carducci String Quartet, Philip Higham (cello), Ailyn Pérez and Stephen Costello with Iain Burnside (piano), the Leo Green Experience jazz band and the Trelights Brass Quintet.
He has collaborated with many singers, and was particularly close friends with the late soprano Susan Chilcott.

Following study at Oxford University, the Royal Academy of Music and the Chopin Academy in Warsaw he became a freelance pianist, specialising particularly in song repertoire.
Its patron is Plácido Domingo, the President is Jonathan Dimbleby and the trustees are Dame Josephine Barstow, Iain Burnside (Chair), Pamela Bullock, Neal Davies, Simon Freakley, John Gilhooly and Ian Rosenblatt.

Apart from her operatic work, she also gave concerts, often with pianist Iain Burnside, a close friend, and with him and the actress Fiona Shaw, gave intimate poetry recitals.
