2 unusual facts about Igneous rock

Frank Rutley

For several years be worked in this capacity at the Museum in Jermyn Street: he described the volcanic rocks of E. Somerset and the Bristol district in 1876, and wrote special memoirs on The Eruptive Rocks of Brent Tor (1878), and on The Felsitic Lavas of England and Wales (1885).

Poços de Caldas

The topography is highly suggestive of a volcanic crater and, given that the region's rocks are indeed igneous and there are hot springs, this gave rise to a common misconception that Poços de Caldas would be located inside the crater of a large extinct volcano.

Berserker Range

The range is composed of a diverse group of mostly igneous rocks dating from the Devonian to Early Triassic Periods.

Eucrite

The term was used as a rock type name for some of the Paleogene igneous rocks of Scotland.

Fra Mauro formation

Analysis of Apollo 14 samples suggests that there are five major geologic constituents present in the immediate landing area: regolith breccias, fragmental breccias, igneous lithologies, granulitic lithologies, and impact-melt lithologies.

Carrock Fell’s geology is unique in the Lake District in that it is predominantly composed of Gabbro, a rough igneous rock that also makes up the famous Black Cuillin on the Isle of Skye.

Most of the park is underlain by Triassic diabase, an igneous rock, and the many large, rounded boulders within the park are made of this material.
