After retiring from the Air Force, Brett became a private military consultant for the Institute for Defense Analyses (IDA).
Norton left government in 1959, becoming president of the Institute for Defense Analyses until his retirement in the 1960s.
In 2006, a study published by the Institute for Defense Analyses (IDA) provided a major impetus toward the department’s formation.

White currently serves as a director of L-3 Communications Corporation, IRG International, Inc., and the Institute for Defense Analyses, as well as the Concord Coalition and Center for Excellence in Government.
He then spent two periods of 2 years each in the 1960s and 1980s consulting for the Institute for Defense Analyses (on loan from IBM), Recommendations were made which changed the IS support of the War Room activities in The Pentagon and studies made provided technology projections for future National Military Command System and World-Wide Military Command Systems.
After leaving government service, Pirie held a variety of positions in the private sector, including that of president of Essex Corporation and vice president of the Center for Naval Analyses and vice president of the Institute for Defense Analyses.
