The first American to do so, Evdokimova won the Varna International Ballet Competition in 1970, having been snubbed earlier that year in a Moscow competition.
She was the first Canadian to win gold at the Varna International Ballet Competition in Varna, Bulgaria in 1980 for the Belong Pas de Deux choreographed by Norbert Vesak.
