The senior international competition has featured numerous world champions and (with IAAF permit meeting status) it is one of the world's foremost annual cross country competitions.

He engraved the statues of twelve apostles found in the church of St. John Lateran; and some of the plates for Gavin Hamilton's Schola Itálica including The Presentation in the Temple after Fra Bartolommeo.
He was born in Rome, was employed by Gavin Hamilton to engrave some of the plates for his Schola Itálica; among these were the following: The Marriage of St. Catherine after Parmigianino; Meleager and Atalanta after Polidoro da Caravaggio; and Christ on the Mount of Olives after Giovanni Lanfranco.
In 1992, Italica produced its first book created entirely in Aldus Pagemaker; appropriately it was a tribute to the Renaissance scholar and printer Aldus Manutius.

Italica also publishes a series of scholarly essays, "Studies in Art & History," with volumes dedicated to scholars such as Aldus Manutius, Paul Oskar Kristeller, Eugene F. Rice, Jr., William S. Heckscher, Irving Lavin, Marilyn Aronberg Lavin and Sarah Blake McHam.
In the aftermath of the Roman–Parthian War of 58–63, Emperor Nero levied the I Italica with the name phalanx Alexandri Magni ("phalanx of Alexander the Great"), for a campaign in Armenia, ad portas Caspias - to the pass of Chawar.
In 180 II Italica was stationed in Lauriacum, modern Lorch.
