New York City Ballet’s Patricia McBride and Edward Villella danced in the Series’ first performance in December 1965, and violinist Itzhak Perlman played a recital in 1971.
His first appearance on Sesame Street, after the Television Monster stint, was with guest star Itzhak Perlman playing the violin, while Telly played his tuba.

De Silva has accompanied violin virtuosos Itzhak Perlman, Cho-Liang Lin, Midori, Joshua Bell, Vadim Repin, Gil Shaham, Nadja Salerno-Sonnenberg and others at venues including Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center’s Avery Fisher Hall, Alice Tully Hall, the Kennedy Center, the Library of Congress, the Philadelphia Academy of Music, the Ambassador Theater in Los Angeles, and concert halls in Europe, Japan and Israel.

Among the most prestigious engagements was his appearance as guest soloist to a National Live PBS Broadcast at The Juilliard School’s 100 Years Centennial Gala alongside composer John Williams, actor Kevin Kline, violinist Itzhak Perlman, soprano Renée Fleming, jazz composer Wynton Marsalis, and pianist Emanuel Ax where he concluded the grand finale playing Rachmaninoff’s Second Piano Concerto in 2006 at age 13.
