4 unusual facts about János Kádár

Ernő Solymosi

After his career as footballer, he worked for the Ministry for Home Affairs, being the personal guard of János Kádár, the communist leader of Hungary from 1956 to 1988.

Géza Hofi

Even though he was critical about the government, and even parodied the head-of-state of the time, János Kádár, the latter is said to have appreciated and understood Hofi's performances to a certain extent.

Hofi often parodized János Kádár the communist leader of Hungary at the time - and in doing so it wasn't his impeccable match of Kádár's speech patterns that left those in the audience gasping for air, but rather the incisive critique of the contemporary politics.

Gyula Lóránt

Sebes personally guaranteed the country's Interior Minister and future Prime Minister, János Kádár, that Lóránt would not abscond while in Vienna.

Imre Nagy

In spite of a written safe conduct of free passage by János Kádár, on 22 November, Nagy was arrested by the Soviet forces as he was leaving the Yugoslav Embassy, and taken to Snagov, Romania.
