2006 Zakouma elephant slaughter

The most recent aerial surveys were conducted from August 3–11, 2006, overseen by J. Michael Fay, a Wildlife Conservation Society conservationist and National Geographic explorer-in-residence.

Goualougo Triangle

Initial surveys of the Goualougo Triangle, comprising a forest rich in mahogany and other valuable hardwoods, were conducted that same year by Michael Fay, a conservationist with the WCS.

Both projects were sponsored by the National Geographic Society, which produced articles and documentaries about the projects.

He has worked for the Wildlife Conservation Society since 1990, and was an Explorer in Residence at the National Geographic Society.
