The college started its first academic year with five branches of CSE, ECE, MEC, EEE and BioTech with an intake of about 300 students in the first batch.
After YSR's death, Reddy's son Y. S. Jagan Mohan Reddy ("Jagan") split with the Congress party on 29 November 2010 and announced on 7 December 2010 from Pulivendula that he would be starting a new party.
